"The 'tropical Trump,' as he is affectionately called, has done a great job for the wonderful people of Brazil," former U.S. President Donald Trump said in a message through his own social network Truth Social, in support of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro ahead of Brazil's election on Oct. 2.

Trump recalled that during his time in the White House, the far-right leader held constant conversations with him in search of tax and customs cuts, as well as trade negotiations and strengthening anti-drug and border policies "to put 'the bad guys' in jail."

"President Bolsonaro loves Brazil above all else. He is a fantastic man and has my full and complete support," Trump concluded in the message.

In the upcoming elections, Bolsonaro is behind in the polls, with only 31% of voter support against 44% of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is the favorite.

Lula challenged Bolsonaro's candidacy on Thursday, Sept. 8 under the accusation of "abuse of political and economic power."

He requested that the Superior Electoral Court declare the current president "ineligible," based on the behavior of Bolsonaro during the celebrations of the Bicentennial of the country's Independence from Portugal on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
